The Rio Hondo Prep Kares's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They suffered a rough 82-57 loss at the hands of Flintridge Prep. While losing is never fun, Rio Hondo Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1024th, while Flintridge Prep is ranked 246th).
Rio Hondo Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek David, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points David has scored all season. Nate Curtis was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Rio Hondo Prep's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 7-10. As for Flintridge Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rio Hondo Prep will stay at home for another game and welcome Providence at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Providence knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Rio Hondo Prep likes a good challenge. As for Flintridge Prep, they will be playing at home against Chadwick at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
