The Moapa Valley Pirates's game last Monday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They skirted past Somerset Sky Pointe 57-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Moapa Valley has posted yet this season.
Moapa Valley can attribute much of their success to Brigham Whitmore, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Whitmore scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Christensen, who scored nine points along with six steals and five assists.
Despite the loss, Somerset Sky Pointe still got an impressive performance from Dylan Oblad, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Oblad hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Kaleo Loo-Beamer was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Somerset Sky Pointe struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Moapa Valley pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Moapa Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-12-1. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
Moapa Valley will head out on the road to face off against Virgin Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Virgin Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday. As for Somerset Sky Pointe, they will be playing at home against Sierra Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sierra Vista is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
