Ray is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will face off against the Gregory-Portland Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Ray's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Ingleside 54-0. The win was familiar territory for the Texans, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Brian McCullum

Ray relied on the efforts of Brian McCullum, who rushed for 251 yards and three scores on only 14 carries, and Tripp Thompson, who rushed for 119 yards and three TDs. Those three rushing touchdowns gave McCullum a new career-high.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ray was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 448 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gregory-Portland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Alice 45-13. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Coyotes are ranked 553rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ray better focus on containing Cody Adame and Carter Dominguez as the pair were huge in Gregory-Portland's win. Adame rushed for 97 yards and four touchdowns on only 13 carries, while Dominguez rushed for 49 yards and one score.
Ray now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Gregory-Portland, their record is now 4-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Ray has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 229.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gregory-Portland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 227 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ray suffered a grim 34-14 defeat to Gregory-Portland in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Adame, who rushed for 237 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. Now that the Texans know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
