The Lamphere Rams will face off against the Avondale Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lamphere will be strutting in after a win while Avondale will be coming in after a defeat.
Lamphere took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Roseville get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lamphere got a great performance from Jacob Lang as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Lang has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaxson Riddle, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cormick Whalen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Avondale's offense. They came up short against Seaholm on Monday, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Yellowjackets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Lamphere has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Avondale, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamphere hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Avondale struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lamphere's way against Avondale in their previous matchup back in March, as Lamphere made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
