Basketball Recap: Camarillo Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Daniela Rocha Betancourt and Christa Contreras

If Camarillo was feeling good fresh off their 80-37 takedown of Simi Valley last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Camarillo Scorpions fell to the Oak Park Eagles 57-51. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Eagles are ranked 31st).

Christa Contreras and Daniela Rocha Betancourt certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Contreras posted 15 points and five assists, while Rocha Betancourt scored 15 points and three steals. Rocha Betancourt's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Emerson Martin was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Camarillo's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-8. As for Oak Park, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Camarillo has already played their next match, a 51-19 victory against Burroughs on the 18th. As for Oak Park, they will venture away from home to challenge Moorpark at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moorpark is on a three-game streak of home wins, Oak Park a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
