After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Winter Springs, the Lake Buena Vista Vipers were happy to have found some success on Monday. They blew past Lyman 67-36 at home. The win was all the more spectacular given Lake Buena Vista's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Lyman is ranked 122nd).
Leading Lake Buena Vista to victory were Bryan Mwangovya and Travis Ligene. Mwangovya scored 20 points, while Ligene scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Ligene has scored at least 25% of Lake Buena Vista's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Filionel Vital, who scored 10 points.
Lyman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Max Mattingly, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Davion Jones, who scored 9 points along with 4 steals.
Lake Buena Vista now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lyman, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Buena Vista will face off against Celebration at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lyman, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake Mary at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
