Cornerstone is 8-2 against Altamont since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Cornerstone Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Altamont Knights at 7:30 p.m. Cornerstone has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Friday, Cornerstone was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-53 to Westminster School at Oak Mountain.
Despite their defeat, Cornerstone saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jacob May, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Holder, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Altamont came up short against Pelham on Monday and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Altamont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Pelham is ranked 62nd).
Cornerstone's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Altamont, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Cornerstone was able to grind out a solid win over Altamont in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 64-56. Does Cornerstone have another victory up their sleeve, or will Altamont turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
