Baseball Recap: Eastern Mennonite Takes a Loss

Eastern Mennonite had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it six. They came up short against the Fishburne Military Caissons, falling 11-4. The Flames were not able to make up for their loss to the Caissons from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Eastern Mennonite saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isaac Ott, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Ott is becoming a predictor of the Flames' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Mani Babar was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Fishburne Military, they moved to 2-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

On Fishburne Military's side, Cooper Ezersky was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, Ezersky is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Benjamin Gilroy was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Simon Frankson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Eastern Mennonite will face off against rival Virginia Episcopal School at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Fishburne Military is set to challenge their familiar foe The Covenant at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
