Ray fell victim to Anthem Prep and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Bearcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Ray saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Barajas, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Coolidge got the win against Apache Junction on Tuesday by a conclusive 21-2. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 11 runs or more this season.
Destiny Joaquin was incredible, firing off three triples, five runs, and two RBI while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natasha Juan, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Coolidge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory got Coolidge back to even at 4-4. As for Ray, their loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ray has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .581. However, it's not like Coolidge struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
