Basketball Game Preview: Covington Trojans vs. Parke Heritage Wolves

Covington and Parke Heritage are an even 3-3 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Covington Trojans will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Parke Heritage Wolves at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Covington has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Parke Heritage will arrive with six straight wins.

Last Saturday, Covington ended up a good deal behind West Lafayette and lost 70-51. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 331st, while the Red Devils are ranked 70th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Kaden Smith, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 10 points. He has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Austin Stein, who went 5 for 8 en route to 15 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Parke Heritage). Everything went their way against South Vermillion on Tuesday as Parke Heritage made off with a 92-70 victory. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Parke Heritage's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.9 points per game. As for Covington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
