The Carmel Greyhounds are taking a road trip to take on the Pendleton Heights Arabians at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Carmel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Carmel barely beat Greenfield-Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Cougars on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Greyhounds have posted against the Cougars since May 18, 2017.
Chelsea Bennett tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Carmel got a massive performance out of Avery Klein, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Klein has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Goddard, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs.
Carmel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pendleton Heights had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The Arabians not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 28th (when they won 16-1).
Pendleton Heights also got a great performance from Morgan Bricker as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Bricker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Fox, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Brynlie Holden was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Pendleton Heights now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Carmel, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Pendleton Heights' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carmel has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Pendleton Heights, though, as they've been averaging 10.6 hits. Given Carmel's sizable advantage in that area, the Arabians will need to find a way to close that gap.
Carmel got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against Pendleton Heights by a conclusive 12-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Greyhounds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
