Gridley and Orland are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will host the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gridley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Everything went their way against Live Oak as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Kaydenze Pruitt made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Pruitt was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gridley got a massive performance out of Chevie Crislip, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Alexis Alcantar was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Gridley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are 14-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Orland made sure to put some runs up on the board against Oroville on Friday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 24-1 win. The Trojans have beaten the Tigers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
Like Gridley, Orland also got a great game from a two-way player: Dottie Davis. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave Davis a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Cutshall, who fired off two triples, three runs, and four RBI while going 5-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Cutshall, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Gridley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Orland, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gridley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Orland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gridley suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Orland when the teams last played back in April. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
