Neuse Charter hasn't had much luck against East Wake Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Neuse Charter Cougars will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against the East Wake Academy Eagles at 6:30 p.m.
Neuse Charter is leaving town to face East Wake Academy after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Neuse Charter fell just short of Wake Prep Academy by a score of 6-5 on Monday.
Connor Phillips was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Phillips was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Brayden Parr was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hayden Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, everything went East Wake Academy's way against Kerr-Vance Academy on Friday as East Wake Academy made off with a 26-4 victory. The Eagles have beaten the Spartans the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Spartans has come to flipping the script.
Like Neuse Charter, East Wake Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Robbie Johnston. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnston was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Dexter Benton was incredible, firing off two home runs, nine RBI, and five runs while going 5-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Driver, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
East Wake Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kerr-Vance Academy only posted an OBP of .375.
Neuse Charter might still be hurting after the 11-0 loss they got from East Wake Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Neuse Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
