Crossroads recap September 10, 2013
Van Horn's J.j. Rivers rumbled for the longest rushing play in Crossroads this season in his game against Wyandotte last week. Rivers scampered for 72 yards on the play and finished with 238 on the day as his team defeated the Bulldogs.
Fans got a thrill when Zach Matson and Joey Grissom connected against Butler. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 60 yards.
Sherwood's dynamic duo of Matson and Hunter Davis proved tough for the Bears to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Matson threw for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns and Davis had 83 yards receiving.
The Marksmen's dynamic duo of Matson and Davis proved to be unstoppable against Butler, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Rivers was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Demetrius Winston added to the ground attack by rushing for 70 yards.
Rivers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Van Horn topped Wyandotte.
Davis was the best receiver in Crossroads this week as Sherwood lost to Kirk Hannah's team.
Matson put up the best numbers through the air as Jim Gurney's team fell to the Bears.
Rivers was a beast in the backfield as Jeff Tolbert's team bested Eddie Brown's team.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Van Horn takes on second place Butler. Last week, the Falcons bested the Bulldogs, while Butler beat the Marksmen.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Van Horn's Marquis Bever goes up against Sherwood's Davis.
The Falcons' offense has racked up 73 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Marksmen have allowed only 40 on the year.
Next week's game between Van Horn and Sherwood will feature a good passing match up as Anthony Winningham will test his arm against Davis' defensive ability. So far this year the Falcons' Winningham has 300 yards and 3 touchdowns to his credit, while Davis has notched 1 interceptions for the Marksmen.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Van Horn and Sherwood face off next week.
There should be lots of points scored when the Marksmen and the Falcons face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Sherwood comes in having scored 28 this season, while Van Horn has scored 73. The Marksmen scored 14 points last week as they fell to the Bears.
The Falcons scaled the state rankings by moving to 96 from 134 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Van Horn climbed the ranks as a result of besting Wyandotte 49-48.
