The Weeki Wachee Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 29 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Crystal River 69-27 on the road. Given Weeki Wachee's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Crystal River is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weeki Wachee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Paige Atwater, who scored 20 points. Atwater is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Joelys Rodriguez, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five steals.
Weeki Wachee pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Crystal River, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4.
Weeki Wachee will be home for the holidays to greet South Sumter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Sumter is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak. As for Crystal River, they will head out on the road to face off against Springstead at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Springstead focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
