Laurel Highlands recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Bishop McCort, who took down 113th ranked Bishop Guilfoyle, 37-0. Zaine Tomkowski threw for 144 yards and one touchdown and ran for 24 yards in the win.
Richland extended the longest winning streak in Laurel Highlands this week by beating Central Cambria, 35-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Jordan Spangler was the best wideout in the league this week as the Crushers bested the Marauders. Spangler racked up six receptions for 118 yards. Tyler Rugg helped Bishop McCort's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.
Tyler Crawford was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 168 yards on 30 carries as Cambria Heights defeated Bishop Guilfoyle. Teammate Nathan Bearer added to the ground attack by rushing for 74 yards.
Joe Donoughe threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He was 10-21 with one interceptions.
Kevin Sheridan's team's Tomkowski and Spangler have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Laurel Highlands in both passing and receiving yards. Tomkowski has thrown for 1300 yards this season, while Spangler, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 44 catches for 577 yards. Tanner Solarczyk from Richland leads the league in rushing with 1237 yards.
The Highlanders' Crawford is a mere 92 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 171 carries Crawford has accumulated 908 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Penn Cambria takes on Somerset. The Panthers are in seventh place, while the Eagles are in sixth place.
Bedford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 12th to 10th in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bison triumphed over Bishop Carroll 19-6.
