The Mullins Auctioneers and the C.A. Johnson Hornets will face off at 1:30 p.m. on December 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Mullins is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than C.A. Johnson in South Carolina (Mullins is ranked 94th, while C.A. Johnson is ranked 212th).
Mullins' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to Crestwood on the road by a decisive 78-61 margin. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from JJ Davis, who scored 23 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakarai Worley, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, C.A. Johnson's game on Friday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 54-42 victory over Allendale-Fairfax.
C.A. Johnson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Milton McCray, who scored 11 points. The matchup was McCray's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Lamont Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Mullins' loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for C.A. Johnson, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Mullins have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 35.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like C.A. Johnson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 18.9 rebounds per game. Given Mullins' sizeable advantage in that area, C.A. Johnson will need to find a way to close that gap.
