If the Plainfield Quakers were feeling good off their 75-53 takedown of the Southport Cardinals last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Plainfield fell just short of Avon by a score of 51-48. It was the first time this season that Plainfield let down their fans at home.
Plainfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eli Ellis, who scored 14 points along with three steals. The contest was Ellis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Baker-lands, who scored 13 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kendrick Dunmore, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rohan Pearson, who scored 12 points.
Plainfield's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-4. As for Avon, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Plainfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tri-West Hendricks at 4:00 p.m. on January 6th. Tri-West Hendricks is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. As for Avon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Vernon at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
