The Mark Keppel Aztecs are taking a road trip to take on the Ramona Convent Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mark Keppel took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Bell Gardens get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Aztecs haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Robyn Guitron made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Guitron was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avigail Navarro, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Sarah Lucero was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Mark Keppel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .633. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Ramona Convent duked it out with Bishop Conaty-Loretto on Thursday. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Wildcats.
Like Mark Keppel, Ramona Convent also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Garcia. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and not a single walk). Garcia was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Delicia Murillo was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Abigail Vazquez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Ramona Convent is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Mark Keppel, their record now sits at 13-6.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mark Keppel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .420. However, it's not like Ramona Convent struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mark Keppel took their win against Ramona Convent when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aztecs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
