The Carey Panthers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Monday. They were the victim of a tough 62-40 defeat at the hands of Butte County. Carey was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.
Despite the loss, Carey still got an impressive performance from Preston Wood, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Wood also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Owen Parke, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Butte County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Westergard out in front who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braxton Gamett, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Carey has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Butte County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Carey will look to defend their home court on Friday against Glenns Ferry at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Idaho (Glenns Ferry is ranked 93rd, while Carey is ranked 92nd). As for Butte County, they will head out on the road to take on West Jefferson at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Jefferson is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
