Bishop O'Connell scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Archbishop Carroll, 38-7. At the time, the Lions was ranked 11th in the state, while the Knights was 151st.
Our Lady of Good Counsel extended the longest winning streak in Washington Catholic this week by beating Gonzaga, 45-24. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Falcons.
Bishop O'Connell's dynamic duo of Leighton Dassau and Marquis Rowe proved tough for Archbishop Carroll to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dassau threw for 136 yards and three touchdowns and Rowe had 61 yards receiving. George Hawkins helped Bishop O'Connell's passing attack out by catching three balls for 41 yards.
Dorian O'Daniel was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 325 yards on 24 carries as Our Lady of Good Counsel topped Rick Houchens's team. Brendan Marshall also contributed to the rushing game with 25 yards on the ground.
Our Lady of Good Counsel's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Falcons feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Marshall has thrown for 738 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Kendall Fuller has 22 catches for 390 yards. O'Daniel leads the league in rushing with 591 yards.
The marquee game in Washington Catholic this week will be the clash between St. John's and the Lions. The Cadets comes into the matchup ranked fifth in the state, while Archbishop Carroll ranks 14th.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when Bishop McNamara and the Eagles meet this week. The Mustangs features well-regarded junior Damian Prince while Gonzaga has Devin Butler, a sought after senior.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Knights take on DeMatha. Bishop O'Connell has allowed 38 points this season, while the Stags have given up 28. The Knights allowed 7 points last week as they topped the Lions.
Bishop O'Connell moved up to 116 from 151 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of a 38-7 win over Archbishop Carroll.
