The Horton Chargers had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 49-44 victory over Jackson Heights on Friday. The win was just what Horton needed coming off of a 69-18 loss in their prior matchup.
Several Cobras players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dawson Cochren, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Cochren scored a full 36.4% of Jackson Heights' points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Savannah Cattrell, who scored seven points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Jackson Heights were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Horton's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-3. As for Jackson Heights, they have fallen quite a ways from their 19-5 record last season and are now at 1-4.
Horton will be home for the holidays to greet Atchison County on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Atchison County is ranked 299th, while Horton is ranked 293rd). Jackson Heights will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Valley Falls at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
