The Spencer Greenwave won the last time they faced the Rutland Hurricanes, and things went their way on Friday too. Spencer managed a 59-54 victory over the Hurricanes. The win made it back-to-back wins for Spencer.
Spencer was led to victory by Gary Gaither and Joe Dozier. Gaither scored 23 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Dozier dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Gaither continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of KeyShaun Sampton, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Rutland lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elijah Brooks, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Taylor, who scored 16 points.
Spencer's victory bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Rutland, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Spencer is on the road again on Saturday and plays the Red Jackets at 1:30 p.m. on January 27th. Jordan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 522nd, while the Greenwave are ranked 151st). As for Rutland, they will be playing at home against the Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southwest will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
