I Section I recap Oct. 16, 2012
Cibola's Jordan Mitchell recorded the longest rushing play in I Section I this season in his game against Sunnyside last week. Mitchell's team topped the Blue Devils as he sprinted for 81 yards on the play and finished with 216 in all.
Tolleson was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Wolverines vanquished Browne 36-18 earlier in the week.
Valley Vista's dynamic duo of Dalvin Richardson and Terry Juniel proved tough for Kingman to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Richardson threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns and Juniel had 155 yards receiving. Malik Moody helped Valley Vista's passing attack out by catching two balls for 45 yards.
St. Mary's's Gabe Losada and Lukas Treffers have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Losada has thrown for 1548 yards this season, while Treffers, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 69 catches for 837 yards. Mitchell from Cibola leads the league in rushing with 1121 yards.
Alhambra's Jermaine Shannon is a mere 37 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 149 carries Shannon has accumulated 963 yard this year.
A big matchup in I Section I this week will be when the Falcons take on the Lions. As it stands, Hayden is in seventh, while Alhambra is in fourth.
Lucky Arvizo's team and Sunnyside played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Lucky Arvizo's team eventually emerging with a 28-27 victory. Mitchell caught one passes for five yards in the win.
