Rolesville hasn't had much luck against Wake Forest recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will face off against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Rolesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Rolesville took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Knightdale 17-2. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
The team relied heavily on Sadie Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Maddie Farabaugh was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Rolesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest posted their closest victory since February 25th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Heritage, sneaking past 1-0.
Not much got past Jil Livengood, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Heritage off the board. Livengood has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wake Forest saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Spahlinger, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Wake Forest pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Rolesville, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-14.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rolesville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Wake Forest struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rolesville suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Wake Forest in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
