The Asheboro Blue Comets can finally bid farewell to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 52-44 win over Providence Grove. That 52-44 margin sets a new team best for Asheboro this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Asheboro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kimry Comer, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sion Murrain, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Providence Grove's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of JADA NIXON, who scored 15 points, and LAUREL BERNHARDT who scored eight points along with six rebounds. The matchup was NIXON's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was MAILEY WAY, who scored five points.
Even though they lost, Providence Grove were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Asheboro only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Asheboro's victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-7. As for Providence Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Uwharrie Charter the next time they take the court. Providence Grove will host Uwharrie Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Asheboro will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
