The Dougherty Trojans waltzed into their match on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 57-50 victory over Crisp County. Given Dougherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Crisp County is ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dougherty was led to victory by Kaleke Singletary-Jinks and Markelle Jones. Singletary-Jinks scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Jones scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Jaion Burns was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Crisp County had strong showings from Zakariyya Dwight, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Jaylon Cooper, who scored 14 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Cameron Williams, who scored seven points.
Dougherty is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Crisp County, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.
Dougherty will head out on the road to face off against Columbus at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crisp County, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Thomasville at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th.
