Shenandoah has gone 7-1 against Hagerstown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Raiders will challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Shenandoah is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Union County. The victory was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won eight games in a row.
The team relied heavily on Lydia Schwagmeier, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Reese Sprunger also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Shenandoah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .531 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Hagerstown entered their tilt with Northeastern on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-3 win.
Rylan Young was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Young was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Elly Cheesman was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emma Jarrett, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Shenandoah's record now sits at 17-3. As for Hagerstown, their record is now 19-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Shenandoah has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Hagerstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shenandoah suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Hagerstown in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
