The Pomperaug Panthers will challenge the New Fairfield Rebels at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Monday, Pomperaug came up short against Newtown and fell 5-1. The Panthers have struggled against the Nighthawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Pomperaug saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Schussler, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Fairfield). They never let Weston get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Monday. The Rebels not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 13, 2024 (when they won 10-0).
Jake Pardalis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because New Fairfield is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Pardalis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Josiah Saladyga was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Law Roccamo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
The victory made it two in a row for New Fairfield and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Pomperaug, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Pomperaug might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from New Fairfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
