Even though the Valley Vikings scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, the Highland Hornets still came out on top. Highland took their matchup against Valley 70-57. That's another feather in the cap for Highland, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Highland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jesus Licon led the charge by scoring 21 points along with 8 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Licon has scored at least 25% of Highland's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raul Stanford, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 assists.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Julian Chavez, who scored 13 points. The matchup was Chavez's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Diego Miscles-Rivera, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only racked up 21.
The win makes it two in a row for Highland and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland will take on Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Monday. As for Valley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Palo Duro at 1:00 p.m. on December 9th.
