The Amundsen Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 46-24 loss at the hands of Taft. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Amundsen has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Amundsen saw an underclassman step up: Charlii Lopez scored eight points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Amundsen struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Taft's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabriela Gonzalez led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Grace Brumley, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Amundsen has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Taft, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Amundsen will take on Westinghouse at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westinghouse is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Taft, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Orr at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully Orr focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
