The Fort Collins Lambkins's game last Wednesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 55-47 win over Pine Creek. This was payback for Fort Collins, who suffered a 55-23 loss the last time these two teams met.
Avery Alcaraz was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Fort Collins' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Wagstaff, who scored nine points.
When it comes to explaining why Pine Creek lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leekaya Burke-perryman. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals. Burke-perryman scored a full 29.8% of Pine Creek's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Fort Collins pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Pine Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fort Collins will be home for the holidays to greet Windsor at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Windsor is ranked 67th, while Fort Collins is ranked 56th). Pine Creek will be home for the holidays to greet Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cherry Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Pine Creek likes a good challenge.
