Even though the Smoky Mountain Mustangs scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, the Swain County Maroon Devils still came out on top. Swain County managed a 64-58 win over Smoky Mountain. This was payback for Swain County, who suffered a 61-49 loss the last time these two teams met.
Smoky Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Fowler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Custer Prenger was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Swain County's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Smoky Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Swain County will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Franklin at 2:30 p.m. Hopefully Franklin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. Smoky Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Brevard at 8:00 p.m. on November 29th. Allowing an average of 58.5 points per game, Brevard has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
