Softball Recap: Alhambra Wins Going Away Against Bethel

Alhambra had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Bethel on Wednesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 19-0 victory. The contest marked the Bulldogs' most dominant win of the season.

Payton Radke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mia Brady and Genevieve Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Brady went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Hernandez went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three RBI gave Brady a new career-high. Julissa Islas also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Alhambra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .861. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Alhambra has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bethel, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alhambra will welcome Pinole Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Bethel, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Justin-Siena at 4:00 p.m.
