Baseball Recap: Independence Wins Going Away Against Washington

Independence won the last time they faced Washington and things went their way on Thursday too. The Patriots put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 15-9 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Ivan Marrufo and Sebastian Sandoval did most of the damage at the plate: Marrufo went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one triple, while Sandoval scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. That triple marked the first that Marrufo hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noel Calderon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Independence and bumps their season record up to 3-5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Washington, they dropped their record down to 4-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
