The Randolph Cardinals put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Frewsburg 60-44. Given Randolph's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Frewsburg is ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Frewsburg lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gavin Smith. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That was a full 50% of Frewsburg's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Blake Weaver, who scored four points.
Frewsburg struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Randolph pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Frewsburg, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Randolph will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Gowanda at 7:30 p.m. As for Frewsburg, they will take on Fredonia at 12:00 p.m. on Monday.
