The Palmetto Tigers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 54-30 defeat at the hands of Parrish Community. While losing is never fun, Palmetto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Parrish Community is ranked 84th).
Palmetto lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Saniya Moody, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Moody hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaii Rich, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Mary Portwood continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Parrish Community, scoring 21 points along with two steals. Portwood is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Sarah Decker, who scored eight points along with 15 rebounds and three steals.
Palmetto has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Parrish Community, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
Palmetto won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hardee at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Hardee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Tuesday.
