While Independence's victory against South Winneshiek wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 2-1. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 2-9. As for South Winneshiek, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Independence will venture away from home to square off against Benton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. South Winneshiek has already played their next match (against Maquoketa), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
