On Saturday, the Cozad Haymakers faced the Ogallala Indians in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cozad took a 62-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ogallala. Cozad's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Cozad's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Olliver Davis, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Kellen Shoemaker who scored 16 points. Mason Fales was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Cozad's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Ogallala, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cozad and Holdrege will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Holdrege will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Cozad is ranked 19th). Ogallala on the road again on Friday and play against McCook at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
