The Southern Wells Raiders lost against the Woodlan Warriors back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Southern Wells was the victim of a tough 66-44 loss at the hands of Woodlan. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Southern Wells in their matchups with Woodlan: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Southern Wells lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chandler Oswalt. Despite the final result, he scored 21 points. Evan Pennington was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and two steals.
Leading Woodlan to victory were Braden Smith and Trey Yoder. Smith almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine assists, while Yoder dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Smith posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Adams, who scored eight points.
Southern Wells' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-12. As for Woodlan, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Southern Wells will head out on the road to face off against North Miami at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Miami is coming into the game with seven straight defeats at home, meaning Southern Wells will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. Woodlan will take on Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Woodlan's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five games.
