Wayne is 8-2 against Lincoln County since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Pioneers will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Wayne has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 8th.
Monday just wasn't the day for Wayne's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Huntington on Monday.
Wayne saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Prater, who went 1-for-4 with one triple. That triple was Prater's first of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Lincoln County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Livonia on Friday. The Panthers walked away with a 10-6 win over the Bulldogs. Considering the Panthers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Bralin Peters made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lincoln County is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Peters was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Chaffin, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Isaac Byrd, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Lincoln County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Livonia only posted a batting average of .227.
Lincoln County's record now sits at 9-7. As for Wayne, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Wayne was able to grind out a solid victory over Lincoln County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
