Basketball Game Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. Wayne County War Eagles

Stone hasn't had much luck against Wayne County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Stone Tomcats will host the Wayne County War Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Wayne County took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Stone, who comes in off a win.

Stone will head into Thursday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 22-point drubbing they dealt Resurrection Catholic two weeks ago. Stone was the clear victor by a 61-39 margin over Resurrection Catholic. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Tomcats considering their two-point performance the game before.

Jhase Jackson was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 21 on his way to 29 points and five steals. Those five steals gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cleon Johnson Jr, who posted six points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Stone was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Resurrection Catholic only racked up nine assists.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 67-30, which was the final score in Wayne County's tilt against Biloxi on Friday. While losing is never fun, the War Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Indians are ranked 20th).

Wayne County's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Stone, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
