The Granbury Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Red Oak Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Granbury has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Red Oak will arrive with eight straight victories.
Last Friday, Granbury lost to Ellison on the road by a decisive 34-18 margin.
Granbury's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jadon Rogers, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown, and Tyler Rodgers who gained 86 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, even though Killeen scored an imposing 37 points on Friday, Red Oak still came out on top. Red Oak enjoyed a cozy 56-37 victory over Killeen. Given Red Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Killeen is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Chris Martinez jr, who rushed for 262 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Martinez jr's longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards. Taz Williams jr did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Red Oak's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
Granbury's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.8 points per game. As for Red Oak, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Granbury has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 214.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Red Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 191 per game. It's looking like Thursday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Granbury was dealt a bruising 55-0 loss at the hands of Red Oak when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Granbury avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
