Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Valley Indians vs. Northern Highlands Highlanders

The Wayne Valley Indians will venture away from home to take on the Northern Highlands Highlanders at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

On Saturday, Wayne Valley came up short against Teaneck and fell 12-7. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Josh Gonzalez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Wayne Valley: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Kamper, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Northern Highlands beat Westwood 6-3 on Saturday.

Northern Highlands also got a great performance from Donald Kohler as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Kohler posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Wagner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Charlie Goebbert, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.

Wayne Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Northern Highlands, their record now sits at 13-10.

Wayne Valley beat Northern Highlands 10-6 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
