Gaither and Plant are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Gaither will be playing at home against Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Gaither is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
While Gaither's win against Jefferson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Gaither sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Jefferson on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Cowboys in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won six in a row.
Kacey Wilkes made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Wilkes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alena Alakrah, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Chyann Herring was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Plant got the win against East Bay on Thursday by a conclusive 18-3. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Shelise Johnson was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alexis Medina, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Plant was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .550. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Plant's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Gaither, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Gaither came up short against Plant in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Will Gaither have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
