Cypress Lakes hasn't had much luck against Langham Creek recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Lobos at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Friday, Cypress Lakes had to suffer through a 44-16 loss at the hands of Bridgeland. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Bears are ranked 91st).
Despite the defeat, Cypress Lakes had strong showings from Jimmy Alarcon, who rushed for 44 yards and one touchdown, and Theodis Fields, who gained 81 total yards and a touchdown. Alarcon showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 54 yards.
Meanwhile, Langham Creek came up short against Waller on Friday and fell 31-21.
Cypress Lakes will have to contain Jordan King as he made an impact in Langham Creek's last game. He rushed for 46 yards and a pair of scores. Langham Creek also got help from Kamari Camp, who showed off his sure hands for 97 receiving yards.
Even if they lost, Langham Creek's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ezekiel Ayangbile, Jacory Shine, and Tristan Kubeczka, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Langham Creek suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 6-2. As for Cypress Lakes, their record now sits at 3-5.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Cypress Lakes has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Langham Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 160.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Cypress Lakes won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in November of 2024, slipping by Langham Creek 35-34. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was King, who rushed for 182 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also caught one touchdown.
