On Friday, the La Vega Pirates faced the Southlake Carroll Dragons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Vega's2023 ended with a 40-23 defeat against Southlake Carroll. La Vega's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
La Vega's loss came despite strong showings from Kiyleyah Parr and Angela Carroll. Parr scored seven points, while Carroll scored seven points. Parr set a new season high mark in blocks with two.
La Vega's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Southlake Carroll, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.
La Vega and Lafayette Christian Academy will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lafayette Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully La Vega likes a good challenge. Southlake Carroll is on the road again on Friday and play against Conway at 4:30 p.m. on December 29th. Conway is on a four-game streak of home wins, Southlake Carroll a 14-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
