6A Region 1 recap November 19, 2013
McGill-Toolen and Wetumpka played the most contested game in 6A Region 1 this week, with McGill-Toolen eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory. Ito Smith ran for 202 yards in the win.
Montgomery made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,015 from 5,273.
The Yellowjackets' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Harry Satterwhite threw for 189 yards and Wil Young had 92 yards receiving. On the ground Smith chipped in 202 yards. Chris Knowles helped McGill-Toolen's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 53 yards.
Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as McGill-Toolen beat the Indians. Smith's key target this week was Young, who caught 3 passes for 92 yards.
Mauricio Cole was a key player and the best on defense this week as Bart Sessions' team defeated Wetumpka. The 5-foot-8 defensive lineman recorded 1 fumble.
Young was the best wideout in the league this week as the Yellowjackets topped the Indians. Knowles helped McGill-Toolen's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 53 yards.
On the heels of Satterwhite and Smith, McGill-Toolen has had great success on offense. Satterwhite leads the league in passing with 2,252 yards, while Smith has rushed for 1,400 yards this season. Murphy's Kameron Maye leads the league in receiving yards with 826 on 54 catches.
In 122 carries DePriest Turner has put up 936 yards this year.
The Yellowjackets led the league in points allowed with 20.
