The Sam Houston Broncos are taking a road trip to take on the Barbe Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sam Houston has given up an average of 39.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sam Houston is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Acadiana on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Broncos were beaten by the Rams 49-21. The Broncos were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.

Despite the loss, Sam Houston got top-tier performance from Gavin Breaux, who rushed for 121 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also threw for 65 yards and a pair of TDs. The Broncos also got a significant boost from E.J. Hanney, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 89 yards.
Meanwhile, Barbe entered their tilt with Sulphur on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Golden Tors, posting a 55-10 victory. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Sam Houston better keep an eye on Jelandon Gray. He was instrumental in Barbe's win, throwing for 237 yards and five touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 71 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Thanks to that big game, Gray is now up to 28 passing touchdowns on the season.
Barbe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 351 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 150 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Sam Houston has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.8 points over those games. As for Barbe, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Sam Houston has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 246.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Barbe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 265.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Sam Houston strolled past Barbe in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 42-23. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
