Baseball Recap: Chelmsford Gets the Win

Chelmsford lost to Leominster back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Lions skirted past the Blue Devils 4-3.

Matthew Wilson and Will Colucci dominated on the mound. Wilson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Colucci tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Colucci has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Matthew Stuart was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Keegan Briere, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Chelmsford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Leominster, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Chelmsford will face off against Lawrence at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Leominster, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m.
